Each week, FOX 9 Health Expert, Dr. Archelle Georgiou, shares her insight on some of the week's interesting medical stories. This week she talks about:

1) Concierge Medical Practices: According to a USA Today article on Monday, some doctors across the country are asking patients to pay new fees for services they say insurance doesn't cover, and many practices are charging patients an adminstrative fee--just to be a patient. Why? Is it worth the cost? Watch the segment to get Dr. Georgiou's persepctive.

2) Hospital Readmissions: A study released by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality sowed that 25% of all people admitted to the hospital are re-admitted for the same conditions that led to their original hospitalization.
Some of the most common reason for readmission are medication interactions, infections, and reoccurence or relapse of the condition itself. Researchers believe that about half of readmissions can be prevented. Some steps patients can take to prevent from being back in the hospital or emergency room include:

--Discharge Instructions: Make sure you have a copy and you understand the instructions before you leave the hospital

--Schedule the follow up appointment with the doctor BEFORE leaving the hospital

--Know how to recognize worrisome symptoms

--Coordinate help from family and friends to help you safely transition from the hospital to home.
