Mental Health

Mental health is often taken for granted, or ignored, until it seriously impacts relationships and the ability to be engaged and productive and work, school or home. Only then do we realize just how important health is to our sense of fulfillment and happiness. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

PTSD is an anxiety disorder occuring after a traumatic event where there was either physical harm or threat of physical harm. As many as 70,000 people may have developed PTSD as a result of the terrorist attacks. (Aired September 11, 2008)

ADHD and new AHA Guidelines

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is the most common neurobehavioral disorder of childhood.  The American Heart Association issued recommendations urging doctors to conduct a cardiac screen in children prior to starting medication. (April 23, 2008)

Mid-Life Crisis/Depression

Life may begin at 40, but middle-age is associated with the highest risk of depression.  A study at the University of Warwick and Dartmouth College showed the risk of depression follows a U-shape over a person's lifetime, with the happiest times being at the start and end of life.  (January 30, 2008)
